The Relationship Between School-Age Children’s Self-Reported Perceptions of Their Interoceptive Awareness and Emotional Regulation: An Exploratory Study

Interoceptive awareness (IA) refers to one’s ability perceive and recognize internal bodily signals. Our behavioral emotional responses interoceptive signals are determined by self-regulation. Therefore, IA self-regulation have considerable impacts on children’s daily occupational engagement performance. Nonetheless, the relationship between relevant pediatric therapy practice continues lack empirical evidence. This study explores association school-age self-reported IA, regulation, academic Twenty-five children completed Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire for (CERQ-k), Multidimensional Assessment of Awareness – Youth adapted version (MAIA-y), Academic Self-Regulation Scale; parents/caregivers a demographics questionnaire (n = 25). Data were analyzed using Spearman’s rho (ρ) correlation linear regression analyses with bootstrapping. Nineteen significant correlations identified MAIA-y CERQ-k subscales (ρ −.724 .700, p < .05) 14 ASRS .448 .687, .05). Two (“not-distracting” “self-regulation”) predictive cognitive regulatory strategies (total variance 33%, 74.1%; .05); one subscale (“trusting”) was autonomous 64.1%; .005). The result demonstrates in Therapists should consider assessing inform goal setting treatment planning.
